McClaran wins CALS Teaching Award
Mitch McClaran was honored at the 2009 CALS Honors Convocation with the Bart Cardon Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award. An excerpt from his citation is appended below. Congratulations, Mitch!
McClaran has demonstrated sustained excellence in teaching as evidenced in very high student evaluations of teaching effectiveness (scores 4.5-5.0 out of 5.0 since 1994). His efforts have been positively reviewed during the peer evaluation process in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment where he has also received two teaching awards. His professional peers in the Rangeland Science and Education Council and Society for Range Management recognized his teaching accomplishments with the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in 1999. This is the highest honor for teaching accomplishment in this international society. These recognitions occurred more than ten years ago, but McClaran has sustained excellence in his teaching program, has expanded his teaching to include a general education course (Arizona Plant Life RAM 222), and has contributed to the improvement of teaching efforts in the School as well as important service on Accreditation Panels for the Society for Range Management. McClaran’s sustained excellence in teaching since 1986, and his growing contributions to improving the teaching efforts of others are recognized in by this award.
